Clifford Robinson explodes
50!

If Cliff Robinson isn't the biggest story in the NBA
this year, he's certainly among the best untold ones. Almost completely
ignored by the voters in the All-Star balloting, he is one of the two main
reasons the Suns have been able to stay afloat in the West despite a rash
of injuries.
And last night he punctuated that point in a fashion
too dramatic for anybody to ignore by pouring in a career-high 50 points
in the 113-100 victory over the Nuggets. His Big Five-OH broke Kevin Johnson's
America West Arena record of 46 points, and was the third-highest regular-season
mark in Suns' history behind 60 and 56-point games by Tom Chambers. Further,
Cliff tied a team record for most points in a period when he personally
outscored the Nuggets 23-14 in the first 12 minutes.
Not a bad night's work for a healthy player, but an
amazing one for a guy who was feeling so queasy earlier in the day he had
to skip the team's shootaround.
